Native to Southeast Asia, Teak is a popular wood used in everything from your favorite fragrance to your home furniture.
Unlike sandalwood and Oud, teakwood smells the closest to what you’d expect if you smelled your desk or table. Slightly bitter and musky, Teakwood is a calming kind of wood that is rarely used as the main ingredient but instead enhances complexions.
Teakwood fragrances project notes of freshly cut wood or forestry vibes, usually light and airy, leaving behind lingering subtle notes on the skin.
Here at Scent Selective, I took the time to test a range of different Teakwood fragrances to present to you a list of the best Teakwood colognes for men.
What are the Best Men's Teakwood Colognes?
How I Tested and Selected The Best Teakwood Colognes
When I think of teakwood, my mind immediately drifts to the musky aroma of a mahogany and teakwood candle – a familiar and comforting scent I’ve encountered many times.
However, when exploring teakwood as an ingredient in colognes, I delved into the subtle nuances to ensure I wouldn’t simply smell like a living room centerpiece.
Teakwood, to me, stands out for its gentle hint that has the power to elevate a fragrance beyond the realm of a simple candle.
The colognes in my selection are not only well-known but also boast these foresty hints that add a sophisticated woody dimension without being overpowering.
In this article, I’ve listed my top 7 colognes for men that either feature teakwood itself, or give that rich, oaky essence reminiscent of it.

Yves Saint Laurent Y Eau de Parfum
Yves Saint Laurent Y Eau de Parfum Review
One of the best mass-appealing colognes to exist, Yves Saint Laurent Y is a masterpiece that depicts a contemporary image of the modern gentleman.
The fragrance is appropriate for both casual and formal wear and can be easily classified as a crowd-pleasing linear cologne.
I would describe the scent best as a fresh and aromatic fragrance with a combination of citrus, herbal, and woody notes.
YSL Y inspires nothing but uplifting energizing vibes and gives off feelings of freshness and cleanliness – something you’d like to feel every morning.
While its different concentrations can be bought together and worn in different seasons, we’d recommend keeping the EDP for the winter only.
Ageless, warm, and projects highly on any man, YSL Y EDP and its lighter version are popular fragrances that can be worn effortlessly.
Overall this is a great everyday fragrance for someone only looking for one, maybe two fragrances to make his signature scent and wear every day.
Top Notes: White Aldehydes, Bergamot, Ginger
Middle Notes: Sage, Geranium Absolute, Quality Bergamot
Base Notes: Ambergris, Incense, Fir Balsam, Cedar, Musk
What we liked

Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette
Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette Review
If there is one popular fragrance everyone knows, it has to be Dior Sauvage. Everything from its scent to its advertising and promotion is highly distinctive.
Although this Teakwood fragrance is not the best representation of Teakwood as a raw ingredient or perfume oil, this infamous Dior cologne is a staple of excellence amongst modern creations and offers a polarizing and refreshing blend of summary notes.
The citrus, in its opening, quickly fades off, leaving you with a masculine blend of wood and spices that projects in a youthful yet sophisticated manner.
Patchouli ties in both contrasting notes making, harmonizing the projection process, and emphasizing masculine characteristics.
Dior Sauvage is amongst the most popular fragrances for men, and the success of this teakwood-enhanced fragrance for him was the introduction of many other Dior Sauvage flankers.
Many of these are only appropriate for colder winter and fall seasons, due to the public’s demand for something stronger than this original.
If you’re looking for the safest play on this list, a blind buy everyone will love, then nothing beats Dior Sauvage. However, the Teakwood is slightly overpowered in its complexion.
Top Notes: Calabrian Bergamot, Pepper
Middle Notes: Sichuan Pepper, Lavender, Pink Pepper, Vetiver, Patchouli, Geranium
Base Notes: Ambroxan, Cedar, Labdanum
What we liked
- A strictly natural scent
- Light and expressive
- Perfect for layering
Dolce & Gabanna The One for Men
Dolce & Gabanna The One for Men Review
This cologne is one we truly love- a woody smooth fusion of notes that is both formal and casual.
In other words, the perfect signature fragrance to wear day after day. Aside from being the ideal teakwood blend on this list.
D&G is one for the ladies and makes up the perfect date night scent for him. Its softness is slightly feminine, giving all the masculine notes a soft, warm side.
Characterized by a rich blend of warm and spicy elements, including notes like cardamom, ginger, cedarwood, and tobacco. While it may share some woody aspects, it’s not specifically focused on teakwood.
Even though D&G fragrances made off this original only get stronger and more masculine, we find the original to be perfect the way it is.
Light notes of floral balance out the fragrance, giving it a subtle warm dry down, giving it the Dolce and Gabbana signature we’re used to.
The brand advertises the fragrance to be their unique take on oriental colognes, and it pretty much resonates with that.
We see a lot of Dolce Gabbana Intenso in this fragrance, everything from its level of softness to the subtle velvety floral notes.
It is perfect for colder seasons with all its flankers and intensified versions, unlike others on this list this top teakwood fragrance can be pretty annoying in hotter weather.
Top Notes: Gardenia, Orange blossoms
Middle Notes: Green grassy notes, Ginger, Cardamon
Base Notes: Patchouli, Musk, Tobacco, Ceder
What we liked
- A strictly natural scent
- Light and expressive
- Perfect for layering
Gentleman Eau de Parfum Réserve Privée
Gentleman Eau de Parfum Réserve Privée Review
Delivering pure metalhead rockstar vibes, this fragrance blends leather notes with smooth natural whiskey to create an intense smelling aroma for the bold and different.
It also ties gourmand notes with true woody characters with a hint of dominant boozy notes.
The amber-toned perfume, evoking the intense hue of the whisky itself, is encased within the polished, pure forms of a bottle echoing an elegant hip flask.
The hidden floral hints add depth to the woody aroma, making you demand more and more and turn heads as you go.
More of a mature cologne, than it is a crowd pleaser like the original Givenchy Gentleman, this fragrance is best worn formally, or on special occasions.
One of the most intense perfumes on this list of the best Teakwood colognes, and the single best winter cologne.
If your number one concern is intensity in a fragrance, then Givenchy Gentleman Réserve Privée just might be your next favorite cologne.
Addictive and bold, this scent reminds us of Bentley intense, Tere Hermes, and Tom Ford Black Orchid.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Teakwood
Middle Notes: Iris, Chestnut
Base Notes: Whiskey, Woodsy Notes, Amber
What we liked
- Boozey masculine complexion
- Balance of earthy woody notes
- Perfect for layering
Mont Blanc Explorer
Mont Blanc Explorer Review
An exotic take on citrus wood colognes, some compare this fragrance to the infamous Creed Aventus, but a little far from that.
The tangy level of citrus in this cologne is slightly less than what you’d find in Creed Aventus, but the woody character is almost the same.
It has a secret aura around itself and it’s not pretending to be something that it’s not, it’s just a great, sweet, spicy, and woody perfume for men.
An innovation in Fougere, Explorer, is part of a new wave of modern fragrances from this family, such as Bleu de Chanel and Zara Vibrant leather.
Explorer opens fresh and smooth. There is a seamless interplay between citrus and herbs, with the sparkling zest of bergamot warmed by the savory depth of sage.
Pomarose, a Givaudan captive material with a fruity, rosy character, brings in dewy orchard facets, which gives Explorer a natural impression that leads one to think of days spent outside amongst the warm sun and the cool breeze.
It is perfectly winter/fall appropriate, but it can be pulled off whenever if sprayed in moderation.
Unlike D&G the one, which was the soft side of everything warm, this is the masculine side of everything soft.
Opening on notes of fruitness, Mont Blanc Explorer is the perfect youthful fragrance on this list and one of the most unique complexions in different fl oz capacities.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Pink Pepper, Clary Sage
Middle Notes: Haitian Vetiver, Leather
Base Notes: Ambroxan, Akigalawood, Indonesian Patchouli Leaf, Cacao Pod
What we liked
- Rich and smoothly shifting
- Perfect for everyday use
- Unique blend of contrasting notes
Diptyque Tempo Eau de Parfum
Diptyque Tempo Eau de Parfum Review
What I love about Diptyque is its blend of natural-smelling notes. No other perfume brand produces such pure raw notes as Diptyque.
While the fragrance is designed genderless, it leans more toward the masculine side of things. The woody, earthy vibe is reminiscent of teakwood itself.
The patchouli is represented in its rawest form, giving the fragrance a musty sillage, that some might find slightly overwhelming.
However, for the right man, Diptyque comes off as a true gentleman’s fragrance if worn with moderation and a classy sense of fashion.
A fragrance for the colder days of the year that projects stronger than any other fragrance on this list of the 7 best Teakwood colognes for men.
Top Notes: Patchouli, Mate
Middle Notes: Bergamot, Pink Pepper
Base Notes: Clary Sage, Raw Woody Notes
What we liked
- Rugged raw character
- Dark and masculine
- Perfect for layering
Maison Margiela Replica Whispers In The Library
Maison Margiela Replica Whispers In The Library Review
Whispers In The Library is a timeless and familiar ambery eau de toilette designed around the contrast of three olfactory sensations: the comforting warmth of vanilla absolute and Benzoin resinoïd, the spicy emulation of pepper essence, and the architectural majesty of noble Cedarwood essence.
It makes my list of the best Teakwood colognes due to how much it smells like your everyday wooden surroundings.
Maison Margiela advertises the fragrance to be “ A day surrounded by books. The slowing down of time covered by squeaky waxed wood, the mutter of turning pages, and discreet whispers.”
It is very much spicey as it is woody, and true to its unisex character. Almost anyone or thing could rock this fragrance. It is light enough to be an all-year-round cologne, no Replica fragrance is to be taken in a serious formal way.
Overall, it is more of a fragrance for a chilled afternoon at home or in the office; or a Sunday morning type of vibe.
Top Notes: Vanilla Woody notes
Middle Notes: Pepper, , Cedarwood, Light Teakwood
Base Notes: Patchouli, White Musk
What we liked
- Light and aromatic
- Cozy woody Aura
- Perfect for layering
