Tom Ford, fashion designer cum filmmaker, established Tom Ford Luxury House in 2005. The luxury brand is known for its spectacular fragrances that go a notch beyond olfactory excellence. It caters to a “wealthy, cultured, and well-traveled” international clientele.

This Ombre review covers what the cologne is all about, including how it smells, its performance, and the best time to wear it. Read on to find out more.

What’s the Story?

Tom Ford describes Ombre as a blend of floral leather and spicy accords resulting in a fragrance that invokes the “still air, open spaces, and layered landscapes of the American Southwest.”

Sonia Constant conceived this Eau de Parfum in 2018. In 2016, Tom Ford released an earlier version of this perfume (same nose, similar notes), going by the name Ombre Leather 16. However, it was discontinued, with this scent taking its place.

Tom Ford Fashion House specializes in niche perfumery, and Ombre Leather forms part of the Signature Collection. The brand’s fragrances fall into two lines, with Private Blend hosting the pricier and more creative scents while Signature Collection holds more affordable creations.

The latter is not inferior, being an equal match to designer scents in the league of Dior. Still, its lower pricing helps attract a much wider audience.

Our Verdict of Tom Ford Ombré Leather

Presentation

4.5

You can tell that this is a luxe fragrance from its simple but stunning packaging. The matte black flacon features a plaque made of faux leather, with the cologne name in white lettering, a stark contrast to the pitch-dark background. The dark-hued perfume bottle hints at the bold sensuality of the contents held within the cylindrical container.

Ombre Leather’s sleek bottle will fit well in your dresser as its sleek silhouette doesn’t take up much space. It comes in 50 and 100ml (1.7 – 3.4 ounces) editions.

Scent

4.3

Tom Ford Ombre Leather comprises leather, amber, and spicy accords. Deeply sensual, it brings to mind the haunting beauty of a wild, hot desert stretching out as far as the eye can see, punctuated by rocks and sand-filled dunes.

Like the desert, this perfume is warm and dry. It’s also quite dark. The opening reveals a unique blend of floral leather and spicy accords. Further on, the jasmine-cardamom-leather mix turns out wonderfully, almost breathtaking in its beauty.

You will love the leather accord. Simple and familiar, it’s like a sparkling new leather jacket or well-worn gloves. Like snuggling into your favorite leather sofa. Granted, it is a little intense. However, Ombre is ultra smooth and not overwhelming.

Cardamom tops the spicy accents, followed by saffron, but it quickly fades away. Meanwhile, amber hangs around in the background, providing anchorage. The base also has moss and patchouli, but the jasmine note lingers, its floral sweetness swaying the fragrance into a more gender-neutral disposition. (To learn more about the unique amber accord, check out this post.)If you are familiar with Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather, you might experience a sense of deja vu upon sniffing Ombre Leather. The two colognes smell almost similar though the Ombre is a touch sweeter and doesn’t have the raspberry note.

Performance

4.4

Ombre Leather is an Eau De Parfum, but its longevity is off the charts. It delivers 24+ hours of staying power, and the projection is remarkable. From this, you will get 7-10 hours of solid wear, and then the scent turns into a charming skin scent for another couple of hours. On your clothes, the scent will last for days.

This perfume wraps itself around you like a second skin, promising to make you feel beautiful and desirable. It’s quite robust at the start, then settles to a more subtle offering, which by normal standards is still strong. Actually, some people might find this fragrance too strong for their noses.

Pro Tip: Avoid rubbing Ombre Leather on your skin upon spraying, as this may affect how the scent develops.

Versatility

4.3

This “untethered and deeply textural scent” is gender-neutral and thus works well for both men and women. This trait is common with almost all Tom Ford formulations.

The best time to wear Ombre Leather Tom Ford is during winter and fall. You can wear it for dates, night outs, formal occasions, and business meetings.

When worn with a leather jacket? Perfection! Particularly if you like the aroma of rich leather, in which case you will find Ombre to hold a certain seductive appeal.

Value

4.6

This is an expensive perfume. Not to worry, though; you’ll get your money’s worth. It’s a long-lasting scent; hence you only need a few spritzes. Also, you could save it for special occasions. A genuine compliment puller, you’ll feel like a million bucks every time you wear it.

Ombre Leather Tom Ford is highly popular, so there’s a likelihood of buying a fake product if you are not careful. To avoid such a scenario, ensure you purchase your beloved scent from reputable perfume stores, online platforms like Amazon, or Tom Ford’s website.

Tom Ford’s Ombre ticks most of the boxes regarding a great perfume.

  • It is well-balanced
  • Smells incredibly nice
  • Offers good value for money
  • Endures for long

If you read through some of the Tom Ford Ombre Leather reviews scattered across the internet, you will find that most users agree on one thing. This is a fantastic scent. We do not disagree.

While it’s warm and clean-smelling, Ombre Leather also bears a rugged edge that’s deeply appealing. It’s probably the spices or the earthy moss interlaced with patchouli and green. Or could it be the desert vibe? The fragrance’s depiction of the American West? Whatever it is, the essence adds depth and character to the classic Ombre Leather. A true Tom Ford masterpiece!
