Chanel produces some of the world’s most luxurious and beloved fragrances. Each Chanel scent is iconic and a perfect work of art, from the sensual aroma to the enchanting names and elegant packaging. Still, what’s the difference between Bleu de Chanel EDT and Bleu de Chanel EDP?
I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing both Bleu de Chanel EDT and EDP, and they both exude refreshing and sensual scents, albeit with a notable difference in potency. The EDT opens with a burst of fruity and citrusy notes, creating an invigorating start. On the other hand, the EDP’s top notes are more subdued and slightly powdery, offering a different initial impression.
So, let’s take an in-depth look into both Bleu de Chanel EDT and EDP to discover their similarities as well as their critical differences. I’ll be sharing not only my personal perspective but also weaving in insights from others to navigate the question of which Bleu de Chanel steals the spotlight.
Bleu De Chanel EDT vs. EDP
Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette and the Eau de Parfum are alike in many ways. They are both alcohol-based and smell clean, refreshing, and sensual.
They also feature the characteristic grapefruit scent plus a citrusy, woody essence. Many people consider these fragrances as high-end scents for men, but they are equally ideal for women.
Still, they also sport significant differences. The most notable difference between the two fragrances is in their formulation.
EDTs and EDPs typically differ regarding their concentration of pure perfume oil. EDP contains a higher percentage of essential perfume oils than EDT.
Below is a table showing a summary of the key differences between the two perfumes:
Product | Bleu De Chanel EDT | Bleu De Chanel EDP |
---|---|---|
Concentration | Lower concentration of pure perfume oil | Higher concentration of pure perfume oil |

Bleu De Chanel Eau De Toilette
Bleu de Chanel EDT was the first Bleu de Chanel. Launched in 2010, the EDT boasts a deep, woody, and aromatic scent that younger men find pretty appealing.
Upon testing I noticed the prominent grapefruit opening and a refreshing and fruity aroma which quickly made me think, this would be a great summer fragrance.
As Bleu De Chanel Eau De Toilette settled in I began to get a hint of mint and lemon, as well as the smoky incense that delivers the scent’s iconic smell. Overall, the EDT’s opening is pretty fresh and captivating.
Bleu de Chanel EDTs middle notes are woody and comprise sandalwood, cedar, and vetiver. The woody fragrances enable the EDT to deliver a deep but not overly mature personality. While Bleu de Chanel EDT is not that strong, it’s an excellent scent for casual wear.
Bleu De Chanel Eau De Parfum
Following the EDT’s massive success, Chanel released Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum in 2014.
Universally adored by Chanel fans, the fragrance is more decadent, darker, and more intense than the EDT. Also, unlike the EDT’s burst of fruity and zesty opening, the EDP’s opening has a milder scent. The thing I found most similar to the EDT is the burst of citrus and fruity aroma. It then has a hint of spice from the pepper component, but it is faint and fades somewhat quickly.
Still, although the EDP’s top notes are powdery and not that appealing, the opening smell soon fades off, allowing the perfume to dry down to a more pleasant scent.
Besides, its middle notes are much more robust and boast a wonderful amber smell coupled with a spicy twist from the ginger. Finally, the base notes feature sandalwood, giving the fragrance extra depth.
The overall scent to me is more refined, well-rounded, and incredibly satisfying, and it definitely lasted much longer than Bleu de Chanel EDT.
While the grapefruit essence is still present here, it’s not as pronounced as EDT. Also, it combines well with the strong incense notes, making the EDP smell incredibly divine.
Bleu de Chanel EDP has a mild calming effect. It’s perfect for special occasions like date nights, an important meeting, or a black-tie event.
Still, the EDP is also appropriate for use all year-round. On the same note, you can also wear it during the daytime, evening, or nighttime, though you might find it performs best when worn as an evening fragrance.
In a nutshell, Bleu de Chanel EDT gives you a vibrant and robust opening but fades away shortly after. It’s perfect for making you feel cool on hot days. On the other hand, Bleu de Chanel EDP lasts longer and spreads its rich and intense aroma for hours. Furthermore, the fragrance is appropriate for all occasions throughout the year.
Which Bleu De Chanel Is the Best?
While most Chanel fans adore the product line’s signature scent Chanel No. 5, Bleu de Chanel has also become a firm favorite for many.
The perfume comes in 3 variants– Eau De Toilette (EDT), Eau De Parfum (EDP), and Parfum. Indeed, many Bleu de Chanel customers argue over which fragrance is the best between the EDT and EDP. So, how do you decide which is the best option for you?
If you’re looking to treat yourself to a Bleu de Chanel, you might find choosing between the two possibilities somewhat challenging.
What’s more, they both come in a deep blue square bottle topped with a magnetic cap, making your choice even harder. So, here’s the thing:
The best Bleu de Chanel is the EDP if you’re looking for a potent, enduring scent. It’s stronger and more highly concentrated, hence performs better and lasts longer. However, the EDT is ideal if you prefer a refreshing, crisp perfume and care little about staying power.
Your choice also depends on your taste. For instance, both fragrances are strikingly sensual and contain the appealing grapefruit signature scent. However, the EDP contains more potent and concentrated ingredients than the EDT.
The Bleu de Chanel EDP performs much better than the EDT due to its higher concentration. It also features more notes that provide an extra punch. Thus, it has longer-lasting power and can smell strong throughout the day.
Additionally, the EDP projects for approximately 4 to 5 hours, dries down better, and smells more enticing. That means that when you wear the EDP, its sillage leaves behind an impressive trail, and you can still smell its fragrance on your skin many hours later.
On the other hand, the EDT projects for roughly 3 to 4 hours, then fades away.

Final Thoughts
Buying perfume is a highly personal choice. While both Bleu de Chanel EDT and EDP are masterpiece fragrances, they have their own distinct features, giving each a unique identity. Besides, choosing between either perfume depends on your taste, preference, and what you seek.
Personally, I lean towards the EDP variant. Its significantly longer longevity and its suitability for special occasions make it my top choice. When investing in a higher-end fragrance, I believe it should be reserved for those memorable moments.
The best thing to do when making a decision is to sniff both and decide what to go for after the perfumes settle. Waiting a few hours to observe the dry down, sillage, plus longevity can help you make a better choice.
