In my quest to uncover the top Jo Malone colognes, my focus zeroed in on scents with a distinctly masculine allure. While Jo Malone is renowned for crafting unisex fragrances, some undeniably lean towards feminine preferences.
To curate a list that exudes masculinity, I delved into the earthy aromas that resonate strength while also experimenting with fresher, more refined options suitable for formal occasions.
Presentation, though consistent across the line, took a back seat to the aromatic journey itself. So, join me as we navigate the realm of Jo Malone, exploring fragrances tailored to the essence of masculinity and style.
In-Depth Best Jo Malone Colognes for Men Reviews
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Review
Created by master perfumer Christine Nagel, this cologne provides a refreshing blast of ambrette and grapefruit, which is not a particularly usual combination for top notes. It lasts for several hours, and musk tones are gradually replaced by sea salt and sage over time.
I find this cologne perfect for casual occasions where your perfume doesn’t play the main role, such as the office, going out for dinner, and other casual instances in daily life. Its freshness makes it an excellent cologne for hot summer days, but it is not really a suitable cologne for winter.
Some people might find this cologne a bit expensive, but the price is justified by its quality. You really get what you are paying for. The only area this cologne falls short of is its longevity. It lasts for around three hours, requiring more frequent reapplying than other Jo Malone colognes.
Top Notes: Ambrette Seed, Citrus
Middle Notes: Sea Salt, Mineral Notes
Base Notes: Sage
What we liked
- Good quality for the price
- Excellent for casual, daily situations
- Fresh and sweet scent
Jo Malone Blue Agava and Cacao
Jo Malone Blue Agava and Cacao Review
Launched in 2006, this perfume is a surprisingly warm, spicy, and sweet fragrance for both men and women. When you apply it, you can notice that the opening is something that reminds you a little of Coca-Cola: Fresh. It is slightly floral, and a bit spicy.
As the perfume settles, you can gradually notice the floral orchid scent. The cacao is constantly present, but it feels more like milk chocolate than the actual cacao. You can also notice the presence of vanilla, cinnamon, and musk.
What I really like about this perfume is its scent and longevity. Once applied, it lasts up to ten hours, which is fantastic. The perfume also comes at a good price, which is another plus!
Top Notes: Cardamom, Lime Blossom, Red Berries
Middle Notes: Lily, Orchid, Geranium
Base Notes: Cacao, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Vetiver, Musk
What we liked
- It lasts up to ten hours
- A truly unique combination of sweetness and freshness
- Good for any part of the year
Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka
Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka Review
The first thing I should mention about this cologne is that it is one of the best-rated Jo Malone colognes for men. Lavender is a top note, but you can constantly feel a little bit of spiciness that comes from tonka bean.
Tonka bean is the base note and provides a mix of sweetness, spiciness, and woody notes. Imagine it as a smell of Vanilla, with just a little bit of spices and tobacco notes – a truly unique, beautiful scent.
A good thing about this cologne is that it lasts for almost ten hours. It also has a decent projection and leaves a powerful, spicy scent behind.
Top Notes: Lavender
Middle Notes: Namibian Myrrh
Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Almond, Vanilla
What we liked
- A truly unique scent
- Excellent longevity
- Good silage
Jo Malone Amber and Patchouli
Jo Malone Amber and Patchouli Review
The first thing you notice is a smooth, rounded, and dark blast of amber, which gradually gets replaced by a woody aroma that you can notice in many perfumes. It is one of the most velvety and smooth patchouli scents I have ever experienced.
The coriander seed makes the scent spicy and aromatic, giving it peppery freshness. From time to time, you can also sense a temptingly smoky wood that creates an aura of sensuality. Due to amber, the fragrance is wrapped by woody warmth, which gives it a unique seductive scent.
Jo Malone Amber and Patchouli lasts for over eight hours, which is quite good. I personally noticed that the projection could be better, but if it is not important to you, this cologne might be your best choice. Seductive and sensual, with good longevity.
Top Notes: Coriander
Middle Notes: Guaiacwood, Patchouli
Base Notes: Amber
What we liked
- Lasts over eight hours
- Good for any time of the year
- A truly wonderful scent
Jo Malone English Oak and Hazelnut
Jo Malone English Oak and Hazelnut Review
Some people might find this cologne a little bit expensive. However, the scent and quality justify the price of Jo Malone’s English Oak and Hazelnut.
One of the first things I notice about the scent is that it really smells woodsy, with oak as a base note. You can constantly notice the combination of hazelnut and cedar, which reminds you of walking in a forest after it has rained.
The cologne is fresh without any hint of citrus, and musk without being heady. I noticed that it lasts for a full working day, but it becomes an excellent night perfume if you apply a bit more. It also leaves a nice trail behind and has a decent projection.
Top Notes: Hazelnut
Middle Notes: Cedar
Base Notes: Oak
What we liked
- Great quality scent for the price
- Decent longevity
- Excellent for nighttime wear
Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia
Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia Review
The cologne gives the vibe of a quaint English village, with the pear and melon on the top, with rose and freesia that give a floral boost in the mid. The base notes are musk, patchouli, and amber, and these are constantly present.
Many Jo Malone colognes have moderate longevity, but this model lasts almost ten hours. Juicy pear and floral freesia are an excellent combination, and although rose gives a floral vibe, the scent still maintains masculinity. It is also an excellent choice for a dinner date out or at a party.
The cologne is not too strong, and it doesn’t provide enormous projection and silage. However, it has excellent longevity and comes at a good price.
Top Notes: Pear, Melon
Middle Notes: Rose, Freesia
Base Notes: Musk, Patchouli, Amber
What we liked
- Lasts up to ten hours
- Floral, but still masculine
- Great for dinners and parties
Jo Malone Yuja Cologne
Jo Malone Yuja Cologne Review
This cologne is a great choice if you want a fresh and zesty blend. Its top note is Yuja, or Yuzu, a citrus fruit that looks like a lemon, but besides sweetness, and also has a bitter note that is quite addictive.
With clary sage as a middle note, it stays fresh and cool on the skin during hot summer days. I would describe the scent as a combination of sweetness and bitterness, with a bit of woody scent here and there.
The base note is fir balsam, which brings a bit of an amber-like scent and makes the cologne smell a bit “warm”. However, it is not necessarily a good choice for any part of the year except summer and maybe late spring.
Top Notes: Yuja
Middle Notes: Clary Sage
Base Notes: Fir Balsam
What we liked
- Good value for the price
- Decent longevity and projection
- Vibrant and unique scent
Jo Malone Dark Amber and Ginger Lily
Jo Malone Dark Amber and Ginger Lily Review
First introduced in 2008, this cologne is very similar to Tom Ford’s Black Orchid. As soon as you apply it, you will sense a burst of ginger and pink pepper, which are the top notes. Over time, you will notice the combination of jasmine, orchid, and rose, which give it a specific, “dark” scent.
It is a strong and sweet cologne ideal for cold winter nights or a dinner with your loved one. The base notes are leather, sandalwood, and black amber, which are present. The scent is intense yet delightful, so it is not a good choice for spring, summer, and hot weather overall.
The cologne has a strong projection and excellent silage, lasting around seven hours. Make sure not to overapply it because it won’t significantly increase the longevity, and the scent is already strong.
Top Notes: Ginger, Pink Pepper
Middle Notes: Jasmine, Orchid, Rose
Base Notes: Leather, Sandalwood, Black Amber
What we liked
- Ideal choice for cold winter nights
- Amazing projection and silage
- Complex and mysterious dark scent
