Founded in 1924, Hugo Boss has become the company that makes some of the best-smelling colognes and perfumes in the world, with almost a hundred years in business.
This mid-luxury fashion house from Germany rarely ceases to amaze us with its products, and in this article, I will review the popular Hugo Boss Iced Cologne, which launched in 2017.
Our Verdict of Hugo Boss Iced Cologne EDT
The top notes that you can sense in Hugo Boss Iced are mint and tea, with the mid being bitter orange and juniper and vetiver as a base. As soon as you apply the cologne, you will notice a strong mint and citrus combination and a little bit of juniper berry a couple of minutes later.
Hugo Boss Iced Cologne smells great and it is a nice choice for spring and summer as it goes along well with sunny and warm days. It will suit a wide range of occasions, whether it’s school, work, or just a casual walk in the park. If you go to the gym, it will also be a good choice due to its fresh scent that comes from the mint and orange combination.
This cologne slightly reminds me of a Versace Eros, since they both have that sweet and fresh scent. However, it doesn’t have that “eros” part in its scent. Unlike Eros, it is not a good cologne to wear in winter.
Performance is the only thing where, compared to similar colognes, this product falls short. Obviously, these fresher, lighter scents can’t last as long as strong ones. However, I expected the scent to last for at least five or six hours, but it lasted just a bit more than three.
The cologne does smell good, even better than most similar products in that price range. However, if you want a scent with longevity, this is not the best choice for you. Note also that you won’t have that mint and citrus combination for the whole three hours.
Over time, the scent will become a bit lighter, and you will feel more citrus than mint. After the citrus starts to fade, you will notice that juniper berry becomes more dominant.
As mentioned, this cologne doesn’t last very long. If you want to slightly increase longevity, you might want to apply a bit more of the cologne. Also, if you apply the cologne right after you shower, while your pores are still open, the cologne will sip in and last longer.
This cologne comes in a standard shape bottle with an interesting flask design. The bottle is completely gray, with the red Hugo Boss logo that stands out. It’s obvious that Hugo Boss wanted to evoke minimalism and lightnesses with this product.
You have to unscrew it to reveal the atomizer. The atomizer itself is not something I feel the need to talk about, but it gets the job done. There is nothing on the back of the bottle, and on the bottom, there is a sticker with a batch code.
To make your Hugo Boss Iced last longer, don’t keep it in your bathroom. The light and humidity can speed up the breakdown of the scent, which will negatively affect the cologne duration after you apply it.
Hugo Boss Iced is not necessarily the ideal choice if you are looking for a cologne to wear throughout the whole year. Its light and sweet mint and tea combination is not a perfect match for winter or even autumn.
Of course, you can wear it in those periods, too, but its freshness won’t stand out from already fresh and cold winter days.
This cologne is ideal for spring and summer. The scent perfectly stands out during those hot and sunny days and feels like a nice refreshment.
With that being said, it’s an excellent day-to-day scent that is very easy to wear for a wide range of social events and daily activities such as work, gym, school, birthdays, or going out for a date.
A great thing about this cologne is that you will get exactly what you pay for. Depending on the store, you can buy it for around $30-40, and it’s one of the best colognes in that price range.
Compared to Versace Eros and Ralph Lauren Polo Blue, it does stand out, and in my opinion, it has an equally as nice scent.
A good practice before buying cologne is to sample it. That way, you will see if it goes well with your body and character before making the final decision.
To sum it up, this cologne is a good choice if you like the fresh and mild scent that comes from the mint and tea combination, with a touch of orange. It is a nice choice for hot days, it provides a good value for the price, but it is not the ideal choice if you want a cologne that lasts long.
Also, it is not a cologne that you will wear throughout the whole year, since it doesn’t match with cold winter days. It’s also worth mentioning that the scent is also quite similar to many mint and citrus fragrances out there.
