Straight out of The House of Gucci, former creative director Tom Ford left the brand in 2004 to birth a fragrance line of perfection and prestige.
The former creative director of the infamous luxury brand is widely recognized for reviving Gucci back in the 1990s. Reputation was Tom’s main advantage when introducing his private brand. Years of trial and practice at other luxury brands made the New York-based brand Tom Ford what it is today.
By launching their first fragrance in 2006, a collection of 112 fragrances that consist of predominantly genderless fragrances came to life.
Known for its undeniably masculine notes, the brand exploits oud, tobacco leaves, and vanilla, like no other.
We’ve personally tested and surveyed enthusiasts for all of the following fragrances to help you towards your next step in choosing the best Tom Ford Cologne for your taste.
In a Rush' Round-Up
How I Tested and Selected The Best Tom Ford Colognes
Embarking on a Tom Ford cologne roundup, I enlisted the help of a few friends—all die-hard Tom Ford fragrance enthusiasts. Together, we subjected numerous Tom Ford colognes to rigorous testing, ultimately distilling our collective favorites into a top-tier list of 8.
In an effort to cater to every budget and taste, Tom Ford’s fragrance collection is generally split into two distinct ranges;
A premium Private Blend collection that is valued at a premium price range and includes Neroli Portofino, Tobacco, Vanilla, and the latest Soleil Brûlan.
Along with a more accessible Signature line that includes Black Orchid, Ombre Leather, and MÉTALLIQUE, in addition to several other sub-categories within them.
When choosing your Tom Ford cologne, there are numerous things to consider, such as notes and intensity, but the most important is the brand’s concentrated formula.
Almost all of Tom Ford’s colognes are of oily consistency, meaning they are less diluted than other fragrances and last longer on your skin.
Because of that intensified concentration, you will need something you’re comfortable smelling all day, nothing disturbing or awkward to your taste.
Season and temperature are also major factors. To keep it simple, always follow this rule for any cologne: woodiness is for winter, and citrusy is for summer. Anything in-between these two notes you’ll have to judge yourself.
The stronger the woodiness gets the colder the weather should be.
Whilst with other fragrances price is a major determinant, with Tom Ford the purchasing logic disappears. If you are in the process of considering, you’ve probably already acknowledged that long before now. Prices will generally range from $250 to $950 depending on the ingredients and rarity of the product.
Things to consider when buying a Tom Ford Cologne
Scents like Tom Ford Oud Wood and Black Orchid take some time to activate. You might not even like them until they are hit by some breeze and mixed with your natural skin oil.
But the secret to wearing from the collection as quoted by Tom Ford himself is the combining of fragrances. All the fragrances are designed to work simultaneously together.
Our favorite fragrances to combine are Oud Wood and Fucking Fabulous. We came to this conclusion after extensive experiments of trial and error. The powdery scent of F-in Fabulous eases the spiciness of Oud Wood, leaving you with a party season cologne mixture that will turn heads and start seductive conversations.
Carefully having tested each product, we present our honest reviews based on prolonged use and extensive industry experience.

Tom Ford Oud Wood
Tom Ford Oud Wood Review
Tom Ford Oud Wood is a controversial fragrance that tops our list for its signature rose oud notes.
There is a sting to its notes while being subtle and rounded at the same time. It’s not for everyone, but people who admire a gentle oud touch should certainly try this one before jumping on any other Tom Ford cologne. The uplifting masculine empowerment will have you feeling like a billionaire in a sports car surrounded by hand-stitched leather interior.
Aside from its extraordinary notes, we proudly pay tribute to this fragrance due to its scarce raw ingredients. Oud originated from mold-infected rare Agarwood, which can cost up to $120,000 per kilogram and goes through a strenuous process influenced by climate and nature.
Despite being priced at $500 for 100 ml and not being the most budget-friendly on this list, Oud Wood will guarantee you the distinctiveness that you’ve long been seeking!
Ultimately this fragrance tops the chart for bringing something completely new to the industry. In a world full of masculine bitter scents, we need a scent that grasps the perfect balance of soft and spicy.
Top Notes: Brazilian Rosewood
Middle Notes: Cardamom, Black Pepper
Base Notes: Oud,, Sandalwood , Vanilla
What we liked
- Extremely distinctive
- Leather rose notes
- Harmonic shifts in accords
Tom Ford Champaca Absolute
Tom Ford Champaca Absolute Review
Step into the world of luxury fragrance with Tom Ford Champaca Absolute. Launched in 2009, this genderless scent is a beautiful blend of floral and oriental notes that will transport your senses to a blissful state.
The fragrance derives its name from the magnolia flower family, Michela champaca, which is native to Southwest Asia. The champaca blossom is known for its exquisite fragrance, and Tom Ford has captured its essence perfectly in this luxurious scent.
Unlike some of the more masculine scents from the Tom Ford collection, I found Champaca Absolute to be a much more refreshing departure. This light-hearted fragrance exudes a sense of calmness and joy.
The fragrance’s floral-oriental composition is unexpected and indulgent. It has a warm, glowing quality that envelops you in a cocoon of luxury. While it comes with a hefty price tag of around $325 for a 50ml bottle, the quality and elegance of Champaca Absolute make it worth every penny.
If you want to experience a fragrance that is both lavish and genderless, Tom Ford Champaca Absolute is the perfect choice. Its exquisite blend of floral and oriental notes will leave you feeling refreshed, calm, and joyous.
Top Notes: Cognac, Bergamot
Middle Notes: Champaca, Orchid, Jasmine
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Ambar
What we liked
- The aggressiveness of the floral note
- Steady leather rose notes
- Harmonic shifts in accords
Tom Ford Fucking Fabulous
Tom Ford Fucking Fabulous Review
This state-of-the-art formula is often ranked number one by reviewers. After comparing it to the previous two colognes, we decided to give it nothing but what it is worth.
This Tom Ford cologne is dominated by a soft powdery note that starts off clean and feminine but later transforms into a spicy warmly hugging aroma. Everyone agrees that it’s calming and smooth, but is it really worth all the hype?
I have to say, this fragrance did particularly stand out to my partner more than other colognes I’ve owned, but we admire Tom Ford for its boldness and assertiveness and would prefer a warm woody scent as opposed to a powdery soft fragrance.
Although on its own it may be a bit too subtle for the typical Tom Ford enthusiast, it is most certainly the best Tom Ford fragrance to mix with other fragrances.
It does not offer you the top value for your dollar, but this Tom Ford cologne can be the cherry on top of your existing collection.
Top Notes: Powdery Iris, Aleppo Soap
Middle Notes: Bitter almond, White musk
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Sage
What we liked
- Extremely versatile for all seasons and occassions
- The feud of feminine aromas
- The aggressive spicy shift in accords
Tom Ford Tuscan leather
Tom Ford Tuscan leather Review
This men’s cologne is a complex creation inspired by Tom Ford’s love for fine leathery aromas.
The top notes are Raspberry, Saffron, and Thyme; the middle notes are Olibanum and Jasmine; whilst evoking Leathery, Suede, Woody Notes and when drying down. A perfume that is raw yet refined, sensual yet sophisticated.
If you’re a fan of oud fragrances, you’ll love how this cologne magnifies that woody smokiness with amber, spices, and rosewood. It’s definitely a deeper, darker scent that I think suits colder months better and it has some serious staying power.
Tom Ford Tuscan Leather is the definition of a quality scent for men. This is no budget cologne, but every single spray is equivalent to being drenched in luxury.
Top Notes: Saffron, Black suede leather
Middle Notes: Woody Spices, Sandalwood
Base Notes: Thyme, Leather, Ambar
What we liked
- The dominant role the saffron plays is with leather
- The subtle base notes
- The masculine dark aromas mix perfectly with floral Tom Ford Colognes
Tom Ford Noir Extreme
Tom Ford Noir Extreme Review
Tom Ford Noir extreme is the perfect everyday signature scent, as it offers top value for your money and lasts far longer than other fragrances from the Noir collection.
Not to be confused with Noir de Noir, or just Noir, this fragrance descends from the Noir collection of Tom Ford but is uniquely different from other Noirs in the collection.
An outstanding fragrance, it is known to be one of the best-selling Tom Ford colognes. Extreme, after its name, is not for the faint-hearted. Personally, I did find it a little to overpowering for myself, but many of my friends loved it.
The assortment of exotic ingredients ranging from Italian fig to truffle combine to make an enticing rare smell that bursts in mystery. Imagine yourself sitting in a cafe by the Amalfi coast with an exotic Cuban cigar in your right hand, and you’ll get a good idea of what this cologne smells like.
Offering top value for your dollar, this scent tops the Noir collection and is extremely recommended as an everyday signature perfume.
Top Notes: Mandarin orange , Saffron , Nutmeg
Middle Notes: Arabic Mastic, Rose, Orange blossom
Base Notes: Vanilla, Sandalwood
What we liked
- The top value it offers
- The long-lasting base note
- Attention-grabbing intensity
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille Review
Ultimately this was the fragrance that would always come to my mind when someone would mention the name Tom Ford.
One of the best Tom Ford colognes, it offers a breathtaking combination of smooth and spicy ingredients that will spark energy and boost your mood. The boldest ingredients in the mix are tobacco leaves, vanilla, cacao, and some woody notes.
All while tonka bean, vanilla, and cacao are responsible for the smooth character of the cologne, accentuated with the curious aromas of tobacco blossom and tobacco leaf, as well as the kick from the spicy notes.
The cologne’s complexity is further deepened with the dried fruits, which add just a hint of fruit to the mix.
I use two sprays for my pulse areas and that is all you will need with Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla. A perfectly warm perfume for the breezy winter season.
Top Notes: Tobacco leaves, Saffron
Middle Notes: Tonka beans, , Vanilla, Cacao
Base Notes: Vanilla,, Incense, Leather
What we liked
- The long-lasting leathery scent
- The sexy masculine aromas
- The value for money
Tom Ford Soleil Brûlant
Tom Ford Soleil Brûlant Review
The newest member of the Tom Ford fragrance family that managed to make our list is the Soleil Brûlant.
We’re glad to see Tom Ford shifting from their usual. This scent still possesses Ford’s dark signature, but only through its opening.
It was introduced in March 2021, and the name means “burning sun” in French, but you won’t have to walk the Sahara Desert to enjoy it.
The dominant scents of the fragrance are amber and musk, brightened with citrus, honey, and floral notes; the subtle hint of floral is what makes this one stand out.
Although this fragrance is advertised as sunshine in a bottle, it is great for every season but summer. We suggest rocking this one through the fall and spring due to the overly sweet floral touch.
Something atypical for the Tom Ford fragrances we are all used to. This summer blossom fragrance will make you reminisce about your favourite beach trip. A half-year-round fragrance of liquid sunshine in exquisite packaging.
Top Notes: Amber and wood
Middle Notes: Smokey Aqilari
Base Notes: Black honey, Musk
What we liked
- The floral hint at the strictly musky scent
- The lingering base of burnt honey
- The summer vibes that tag along
Tom Ford Bitter Peach
Tom Ford Bitter Peach Review
A recent addition to the private blend collection, Bitter Peach was released in October 2020. Although it’s a unisex fragrance, we enjoy this scent so much we’ve decided to include it in our list of the best Tom Ford colognes for men.
Its top notes are Peach, Cardamom, and Rum; the middle notes consist of Cognac and Jasmine. Settling with base notes of Sicilian orange, Vanilla, Sandalwood, and Vetiver.
This Tom Ford fragrance classifies as a fruity, floral, mystic potion. When first spraying, the fragrance is aggressively fruity – acerbic at best. It grabs your nose and forces you to ask for more, then brings out its bitter side upon drying down.
Ultimately Tom Ford Bitter Peach follows in the footsteps of lost cherry and fucking fabulous. Aggressive upon spraying, but the warm-hearted middle scent is where you get caught up.
Top Notes: Peach, Rum
Middle Notes: Jasmine, Indonesian patchouli
Base Notes: Vanilla undertone, Vetiver
What we liked
- The uniquely provoking bitterness
- The spicy opening
- The fruity but never sweet tone
Overall, there’s no such thing as one “best” perfume. We’re all unique human beings with completely different tastes and complex preferences when it comes to scents. What may work well with your natural oils, and taste may not sit as well with others.
