Our Verdict of Polo Black Cologne

Presentation

3.5

Polo Black comes in a sophisticated dark-hued glass bottle. The cap is sturdy and clicks into place, exuding a reassuring quality.

The emblem sports a polo player atop a horse, mid-swing, which is both charming and iconic. Deceptively simple and minimalistic, it symbolizes sophisticated luxury, legacy, and enduring style.

The polo player’s strong shoulders depict a confident, powerful, and purposeful man, akin to one who dares to wear Polo Black Ralph Lauren.

Scent

4.8

Ralph Lauren’s Polo Black smells fantastic. It has a soft, inviting, fruity-woody scent that will entice your significant other to want to cuddle while everyone you get close to gives you an approving nod.

The fragrance unfolds with a fresh, fruity blast of scrumptious mango followed by a hint of spiciness and citrusy tangerine. The citrus notes give the opening an edgy tropical vibe.

These top notes soon evolve into a woodsy, herbal, and subtly sweet accord, whose core stars the aromatic silver Armoise, lending the heart a rugged confidence.

On my skin, it remains fairly linear, showcasing a blend of mango, tangerine, lemon, and enduring sandalwood. Over time, tonka bean and musk emerge as the fruity notes fade.

One interesting thing about this cologne is its unique mix of contrasts. The mango/citrus combination lends it an element of sweetness plus a trace of sharpness, while the Tonka-sandalwood blend is soft and smooth. Then comes earthy patchouli, wrapping up the fresh, tropical fragrance.

Ralph Lauren Polo Black is a well-blended scent featuring high-quality ingredients. You can’t go wrong with this one – it makes a lasting impression and will get you noticed!

Performance

4.3

While Polo Black projects fairly decently at the outset, it’s a moderate scent whose output might‌ not remain remarkably high throughout the day. In other words, the performance is not above average, which is understandable as light and fresh fragrances are rarely beast performers.

Some users complain that Polo Black’s performance is understated, citing the cologne’s moderate sillage and longevity. However, I would rate the performance “decent” and add that some users overestimate the fragrance.

Despite the above, Polo Black will deliver up to seven hours of decent wear. This is remarkably good for an eau de toilette (EDTs typically contain a lower concentration of perfume oils than EDPs).

Additionally, women adore Polo Black; they find its aroma highly intoxicating, which might tilt the scale for you.

Versatility

5

You can wear Polo Black all year round, anytime, anywhere, and for almost any occasion.

An excellent scent for casual wear, the cologne performs exceptionally well even in warm weather, making it ideal for spring and summer.

It’s also great to wear in winter (or in the evening), like when going to the opera or a concert. In other words, you can move from the boardroom to the dinner table without a hassle.

I draw comparisons to Polo Blue, finding Polo Black a bit more refined and elegant, making it ideal for business settings.

Overall

4.4

Ralph Lauren Polo Black is a bold fragrance with a modern, hip vibe. Rich, warm, and vibrant, the fruity, citrusy scent smells really good, lasts fairly long, and is available at an affordable price. Moreover, the fruity notes are unique and well-balanced, while the woodsy heart lends Polo Black its distinctive masculine essence.

So, is Polo Black a good cologne? Most definitely!

This popular masculine cologne is the go-to scent for many gents. It owes this to its seductive, refreshing, clean, and musky aroma. Also, it appeals to a broad audience thanks to its appealing yet subtle scent.

Ultimately, while the sillage and longevity could be better, Polo Black EDT delivers a decent performance, and the aroma is simply divine.

One thing to note here is that the scent might last longer on some users, depending on their body chemistry. A helpful tip to enhance longevity is to spritz the cologne on your pulse points and clothes – it will last all day.

If you wore Polo Black back in the day, the scent has not dated. It still smells amazing, meaning a bottle will come in handy for the days you wish to rekindle lost memories.

Thus, if you consider yourself urban, sensual, and sophisticated, add this timeless cologne to your fragrance collection.
