Fahrenheit Eau de Parfum is a re-interpretation of Jean-Louis Sieuzac’s 1988 classic Fahrenheit fragrance.

The original scent epitomized “brazen intensity” and came as a blend of violet leaf, woods, and leather, resulting in a striking, assertive, yet polarizing formulation.

As expected, Dior fans tend to compare both perfumes generating mixed opinions but with each scent getting its fair share of die-hard followers. In this Fahrenheit cologne review, we focus on the Parfum edition.

What’s The Story?

Any Fahrenheit review would be incomplete without a mention of the iconic Fahrenheit from the late 1980s. Many loved it, while others found it an instant put off – you’ll learn why in a bit.

Dior’s in-house perfumer, Francois Demachy, conceived the Parfum version in 2014, presenting it as an intense but harmonious balance of contrasting facets – elegance and strength.

It’s not a stronger make of Fahrenheit but a modern, more refined take on the old formulation.

This male fragrance retains its predecessor’s signature DNA underscoring the oriental-leathery aspects.

In addition, it incorporates precious natural components and sensual nuances to the classic theme, creating a new, unique personality.

Christian Dior Fahrenheit Eau de Parfum comes in a shimmery glass flacon with varying hues. The top is pitch black, but as you move down, the bottle changes color, turning crimson and a bright yellow shade at the bottom.

This perfume comes in a unique size given that it presents in a 75ml (2.53 fluid ounces) fragrance bottle. Most perfumes are packaged in sizes of 50 and 100 ml (1.7 and 3.38 ounces).

Dior Fahrenheit EDP holds a charming and irresistible allure.

The cologne unfurls with potent suede notes in a vibrant opening. Accompanying suede is fresh and fruity mandarin sourced from Silcily plus sweet licorice. The heart holds an intricate blend featuring notes from green violet leaf and rum -both absolutes- teamed with spicy coriander and cumin.

As the fragrance continues unfolding, the unmistakable leather accord gradually stands out. (The leather note is not listed in the scent profile, but its accents are integral to Fareinheit’s signature). Meanwhile, bourbon vanilla makes a grand entrance at the base, heightening things a notch by adding warmth and stability.

Christian Dior’s original Fahrenheit possesses an arresting scent courtesy of violet leaf and leather that drips with strong, gasoline-like accents. With the EDP, the enchanting leather note, woods, and sensual violet remain, but you also have new additions, namely spicy notes, boozy rum, and sweet, skin-hugging vanilla, to smooth things out.

The drydown is rich, deep, powdery, and mouthwatering thanks to the vanilla absolute, but you can still pick out the leather in the background. Overall, the effect is a captivating fragrance that leaves an intoxicating trail in its wake.

This cologne is one of the best-selling male scents for a reason.

Christian Dior’s Fahrenheit EDP cologne is a strong perfume with an outstanding performance. It lasts incredibly long, its beautiful aroma persisting throughout the day. And given that it’s a Parfum, you can expect the enthralling scent to linger for hours after application, attracting curious glances as well as compliments.

Expect great sillage and projection too. This is a heavy/dense fragrance, and it can get slightly overpowering in the initial 1-2 hours, but then it settles down to something utterly pleasing.

Here is a short video that explains these often confused terms; longevity, projection, and sillage.

When and where can you wear Dior Fahrenheit EDP?

Fahrenheit Eau de Parfum is quite versatile. However, it’s so well put together it deserves to be worn during special occasions – not to the office or when you want to chill out. We see this as more of what you’d want to wear to an upscale restaurant, the theater/opera, or for date nights.

The most appropriate time to wear this fragrance is during cool weather. So, spritz it on it during the daytime over fall and winter and in the evening for better results. The cologne can stretch to springtime wear, too but might be on the heavy side for the summer heat.

Farenheit EDP comes highly recommended for any man looking for a daily staple with a long-lasting performance.

If you were a fan of the classic Fahrenheit (or still wear it), you might want to try this iteration. Suave, elegant, and evenly balanced, it retains the OG’s salient features and virtues that made it such a hit while smoothing out the rough edges – notably the unpleasant gasoline/petrol note. Just be prepared for anything – it can be addictive!

To summarize, Fahrenheit Eau de Parfum is another stunning masterpiece from the House of Dior. The quality is exceptional, whereas the performance is beast-mode, making this concoction a must-have for any Fahrenheit fan.

The only downside is the price, as this stuff doesn’t come cheap. Dior Fahrenheit EDP cologne retails at more than $150 for a 75 ml (2.5-ounce) bottle, which is quite steep. Having said that, the scent is worth every cent as it delivers a sterling performance. However, if budget is a constraint, consider it a treat and buy yourself a bottle you reserve for momentous occasions.

Pro Tip: It is always a good idea to sample a fragrance before committing to buy it, especially one as expensive as Fahrenheit EDP. Reading online reviews is not enough, as you need to establish how your preferred choice smells. And don’t just smell it on paper – find out how it reacts on your skin by investing a few minutes of your time and allowing it to settle.

Top Notes: Sicilian mandarin, Suede, Licorice

Middle Notes: Violet leaf, Rum, Coriander, Cumin

Base Notes: Bourbon vanilla absolute

Pros

  • Has a beautiful and addictive masculine aroma
  • A mature and refined scent
  • Lasts beyond 10 hours

Cons

  • The alcohol aroma might not appeal to everyone
  • It is relatively pricey
